  • Backyard Sports Cares provides free monthly special events for children and young adults ages 6-21 with special needs. Staffed by Westchester’s leading teachers and peer volunteers, our events provide a safe, fun and welcoming environment for our athletes to connect and build friendships on Friday and Saturday evenings. Our monthly special events may include bowling, hiking, fishing, ropes courses, snow tubing, movie nights, sporting events, plays, cooking/baking, and a rotation of other exciting new activities every season! All of our events are thoughtfully adapted to accommodate a wide range of ability levels with an emphasis on kindness, confidence building and connection.

    Surfing Outing:  Sunday, Sept. 27

We have a very exciting opportunity to share with you! We will be hosting a Backyard Sports Cares surfing outing on Sunday September 27th from 12:30am-2:00pm. We will meeting in Long Beach on Long Island for surfing lessons with professional instructors followed by lunch at the beach. Our community partners "Skudin Surf" and "Sababa Beach Camps" will be providing instructors who have many years of experience working with young surfers who have varying ability levels and needs.

We are asking parents to use your best judgement to decide if participation would be a good fit for your child. Although the instructors do a wonderful job of adjusting to the individual needs of each participant, we recommend that if your child is not already comfortable in the water/ocean, then this may not be the best activity for your child.

    • Time: 12:30pm - 2:00pm
    • Location: Long Beach on Long Island
    • Fee: FREE!

*Although there is no fee for this event, we ask that all participants and volunteers please register in advance.
